The mid-1980's were a time of economic uncertainty coming on the back of deep recession.
The economy continued to improve during 1983-1987.
Margaret Thatcher was in power, she reshaped and reformed British politics.
The government began to peruse a policy selling state assets, this had totalled to 20% of the economy when the conservatives came into power.

Margaret Thatcher marked the completion of the M25 road around London on 29 October 1986 by celebrating the completion the last section. The M25 is probably one of the most hated strips of road in the UK. According to the guardian it has been described as a vortex of which no one can escape.
I think the opening of the M25 is an important event because it means that people in that time could essentially find it easier to travel to and from London. Making the Job career opportunity more vast and obtainable for Games this is important to be able to travel more "officially" in and out of our country's capital, where some of the main company's would be located.

US Air Strike on Libya
At least 100 people died after USA planes bombed targets in Libya capital, Tripoli and the Benghazi region.
Around 66 American jets, some of which from British bases launched an attack at around 0100 hours Monday (15th April)
White house spokesmen insisted that the strikes where only directed at key military points but reports suggested that missiles also hit Bin Asher a densely populated suburban capital.
The Gaddafi Residential compound took a direct hit killing Hanna Gaddafi, the adopted baby daughter of Libyan leader.
President Reagan justified this attack by accusing Libya of direct responsibility for terrorism aimed at American, such as bombing La Belle discotheque in West Berlin 10 days before (5th April)
President Reagan made TV address 2 hour after the attack took place "when our citizens are attacked or abused anywhere in the work on direct orders of hostile regiments we will respond, so long as I am in this office"
President Regan defended himself by arguing that America was exercising it's right to self defence as defined by Article 51 of the UN Charter.
This was President Reagan Speech that was broadcast on the day of the attack.

Article 51 entails -
Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security. Measures taken by Members in the exercise of this right of self-defence shall be immediately reported to the Security Council and shall not in any way affect the authority and responsibility of the Security Council under the present Charter to take at any time such action as it deems necessary in order to maintain or restore international peace and security.
