I personally feel that we are not free, we live in a westernised society that confines for our own benefit. To keep order and stability, living in this society we can think and have our own opinion and have the freedom to express ourselves. However in controlled environments. When protesting peacefully authorities will move you to a distance away from the building or site. So that they keep you away from important people. If you do something their is repercussion.
We can also set our own restriction for freedom, an example of this is religion in our western society we can chose our religion. Within religion there are guidelines to live by and does and don't but if you don't live by these rules there are no penalisation for it.
However in other parts of the world and even a small minority in our own country, aren't so lucky to chose their religion and beliefs. Some individuates are born into a family that have strong views and religion going against these views will leave them exiled from the family and even in some cases violence and forceful measures are used to ensure they conform. This is not freedom.
In the UK we have the right to vote and have a voice, the argument is this is freedom. The freedom to vote and have a voice. As a hole we have a voice but as individuates do we? If I vote conservative and everyone else votes UKIP and they win, I would have to live in a society that they at that time control. Even if I didn't agree with their policies and views.
A very interesting point that was brought up is that even in games we are not free, even in open world. A game is driven by a set of goals, such as achievements state of affairs. The story line creates stricter, if the game had no rules and the play was able to glitch anywhere and the use of cheats would break the game causing kayos and usually violence for example free roam in the GTA series. One there is nothing left to do the game becomes boring to notice all the stuff you can't do, for example areas you can't enter buildings you cant access.
I think the closes thing we have to freedom is the internet. What ever you want, you can find it on the internet. It connects us to other people. Able to communicate secretly and discretely. The internet causes a hole load of problems for the government and keeping control the task is almost impossible.
